Season 2 Review: Who are the Good Guys?
16 October 2017 | by (Chicago) – See all my reviews

The second season was more or less the same quality as the first season. There seemed to be a little more humor which this rather depressing series needs. When I finally began to like a character, the writers kill them off. So who do we get to root for this time around?

The town of Fortitude witnesses a rare blood aurora which is supposed to be a sign of a demon in search of a human host. We get a flashback to an event on the Russian outpost where most of the people go mad. There is a gruesome scene of a man eating a baby (fortunately we don't see too much but we do know what he's doing).

Eric is searching for Dan who has vanished as it seems he was infected with the wasps. We now get a new part of the story as those who survive the larvae living inside of them are able to regenerate and have super human strength. That explains the cold Dr Khatri's appearance in the cast.

We also get a shaman who may be good or bad. He seems to like to kill and they want us to believe he could be supernatural. Then we get explanations for how he did some of his deeds. There are so many plot holes again as one would think the police station as well as the medical and research facilities would change the codes after each personnel leaves. At least that is how it is in real life.

Dan also is found and he may be good, crazy or evil. We get to pick which one he is as there is no answer given. I do like this part as it makes him a bit more complex. However, I don't know if I should root for him or be afraid.

Dennis Quaid also is added as Michael Lennox, the father of policewoman Petra. He brings along his terminally ill wife (what's with the dying people on this show?) as well as his teenage son Rune. The actress playing Freya gets to ham it up being sick while the young man just stands around with a look like a reindeer caught in the headlights. He's eye candy and that's about it.

There are other characters from last season who come and go but we don't see any real development. The writers are busy trying to work a rather ridiculous plot and don't have time for that.

The scenery is again great but bleak just like the story lines. The actors are good with what material they are given and the show does move along quickly. I just wish we had someone to really root for. I began to like Hildy but then she takes a dirt nap. It seems the writers think they are shocking us when they kill off a major character. The trick they need to know is not killing people off so often.

I probably will watch a third season if this show gets one. I am curious what they can do with Dan now that he's changed. Or is he back? They also will need another group of new cast members as well as a new McGuffin. I think this one about wasps, demons and supermen is done.
