Luke Cage Star Ron Cephas Jones Circling Key Role In Shazam!

Ron Cephas Jones, star of Mr. Robot, Luke Cage and NBC’s hit drama This is Us, has entered talks to play the titular, all-seeing wizard in Shazam!

The Wrap has the scoop, claiming that Jones has come into contention for the coveted role just as Shazam! gears up to enter production.

In the comics, Shazam (Aka the Jebediah of Canaan) is not long for this world. Before kicking the bucket, he decides to bestow his legendary powers upon the young Billy Batson, who becomes an adult superhero in the blink of an eye. Zachary Levi has been cast as the full-grown Billy, and if David F. Sandberg’s long-gestating spinoff stays true to the comics, he’ll be able to call upon the deceased wizard for guidance – not unlike how the Star Wars franchise leans on Force ghosts to mold and shape its up-and-coming heroes.

SAG Awards Predictions 2018: Who Will Win?

SAG Awards Predictions 2018: Who Will Win?
The 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are set to unfold Sunday, Jan. 21. Nominations leaders were “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” on the film side and the trio of “Big Little Lies,” “Glow,” and “Stranger Things” on the television side. How will the industry’s actors react to another year on the big and small screens? Here are our predictions. Tune in Sunday night to see if we nailed it.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

It’s hard to imagine the guild passing on a legend like Gary Oldman, who disappears into the epic role of Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour.” If an upset is lurking, look to newcomer Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name”).

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, basically. The lead actress contest has been the most competitive all year. Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”) has the showiest work.

‘This Is Us’ Producer Talks Horrifying Clue, ‘Bracing’ Fans for Jack’s Death
(Spoiler alert: Do not read on unless you have watched through the Jan. 16 episode of “This Is Us.”) How hard is to remember to buy batteries?!? Okay, to be fair, the Pearson clan had a lot going on during “Clooney,” the Jan. 16 episode of “This Is Us.” But fans everywhere will probably never forgive them for what the final scene of Tuesday night’s installment revealed: Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) absent-mindedly shrugging off the idea they had forgotten the one thing they went to the mall for, as the camera pulled back to reveal their smoke detector with...

Regina King & Rashida Jones Among Women Directors Spotlighted in Alice Initiative List

Regina King: “Jimmy Kimmel Live”/YouTube

At a time when Hollywood’s conditions feel particularly grim, it’s important to recognize the movements and resources continuously committed to industrial change and an equality-driven future. The Alice Initiative is among those that have been doing just that.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Alice Initiative, which first began in 2016, consists of a group of anonymous female film executives devoted to annually spotlighting 20 talented female directors who have yet to direct a studio feature film. It is named after 20th century French filmmaker Alice Guy-Blanche, who is considered the first female director.

The annual survey is conducted via emailed responses from over 50 executives and producers. It highlights women who have directed a (non-studio) feature alongside those who have worked in TV and/or short films.

Among others, this year’s list includes Rashida Jones (“Hot Girls Wanted”), Regina King (“Shameless”), and Reed Morano,
