The Flash Season 4 Episode 2 Review – ‘Mixed Signals’

Jessie Robertson reviews the second episode of The Flash season 4…

The Flash tries to get back some of that season 1 magic by completely lightening up the mood on the show after one of the most abysmal episodes, not just in its history, but in all of The CW-Verse, last week’s premiere.

The humor is back, from Barry recreating Tom Cruise in Risky Business to watching months of TV in a few seconds (Jon Snow died? Oh he’s alive again) to Barry’s suit inflating like a fat suit at a high school after prom, but the essential problem that has now lingered way too long still exists: its main characters are unlikeable.  Barry Allen, who was the most darling of characters back when he debuted, now is sort of an insensitive jerk who doesn’t listen to anyone; but since he always does it with a smile, I »

53rd Chicago International Film Festival Capsule Review – I, Tonya (2017)

Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street gave Margot Robbie a huge opportunity that she fearlessly seized, dressing up as Harley Quinn broke her into the mainstream as a Hollywood star, and now  I, Tonya should net her a first-time Oscar nomination. Directed by Craig Gillespie (last year’s The Finest Hours), the biopic depicts the figure skating career of the infamous Tonya Harding, allowing for Margot Robbie to undergo a drastic physical and personality transformation shedding all that starlet glamour to bring out some old-fashioned white trash Americana. The makeup effects which present Tonya Harding at three different critical points in her life are nothing short of astounding; Robbie is absolutely unrecognizable and a tour de force. It’s still early in her career, but this will go down as her performance to beat, and much like pulling off a triple axle, it won’t be easy to surpass. »

Exclusive Interview – Composer Christopher Willis on The Death of Stalin, with a special preview of the film’s score!

Alex Moreland chats to Christopher Willis about The Death of Stalin, his work with Disney, and more…

So, first of all, how did you come to be involved in The Death of Stalin?

Well it grew out of working with Armando [Iannucci, director of The Death of Stalin] on Veep. We’d been working together on Veep since the start of the show, and after that finished, we were still in touch, and had a lot of interesting musical and cinematic conversations. Conversations about music and film and all that, and lucky enough for me he asked me if I’d be interested in working on Stalin, which he was planning on working on next.

Can you tell us a little bit about the music and the sound style of the film?

Absolutely, yeah. The starting point was thinking about Soviet music from the 1950s, of which there was a lot, you know, there was a whole »

“Zack had the idea to put the tattoos everywhere and everyone wanted him to have a little bit of blonde in the hair,” said Momoa. “I just wanted him to have the Van Gogh green-colored eyes, where you can kind of get lost in them. Now, take this with a pinch of salt, but according to the site Hugh Jackman (Logan), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Dwayne Johnson (Baywatch) are all high on the shortlist to lend their voice to the titular Pikachu, although none of them have apparently taken any meetings with regards to the role.

Detective Pikachu is slated to begin production in January, with Letterman directing from a script by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy »
