Dunkirk” and “Black Mirror” were among the winners at the Casting Society of America’s 33rd Annual Artios Awards on Jan. 18.

Casting director John Papsidera was awarded for feature film big budget — drama for his casting in “Dunkirk.” Bernard Telsey and Tiffany Little Canfield, along with Rori Bergman and Patrick Goodwin, won the feature film big budget — comedy award for their work on “The Greatest Showman.”

“Lady Bird” casting directors Jordan Thaler and Heidi Griffiths were recognized for feature film studio or independent comedy, and the casting team for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” Sarah Halley Finn, Meagan Lewis, and Hannah Cooper, won the feature film studio or independent — drama.

In the television arena, the casting team for Netflix’s “Black Mirror” won for television drama series, HBO’s “Veep” for television comedy series, and HBO’s “Big Little Lies” for limited series.

Athena Film Fest’s 2018 Lineup Includes “The Breadwinner,” “I Am Not a Witch,” “Lady Bird,” & More

Disappointed by the Golden Globes’ lack of love for women directors? You can check out some of the year’s best films — many of which were helmed by women — at the upcoming Athena Film Festival (Aff), a showcase of women leaders in real life and the fictional world.

The fest has announced its 2018 lineup, and it includes critically acclaimed titles such as Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” a coming-of-age story about a teen who dreams of leaving her hometown behind, Nora Twomey’s “The Breadwinner,” an animated film about a girl living under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, and the New York premiere of Rungano Nyoni’s “I Am Not A Witch,” a drama that follows a girl who is accused of witchcraft in her African village.

Overall, a whopping 88 percent of films being screened are women-directed (Eighty-three percent of narratives, 92 percent of documentaries, and 87 percent of shorts.

Amazon Passes on Pilots Starring Bridget Everett and Glenn Close

Amazon is batting 0-3 with its 2017 comedy pilots: The streamer has passed on its entire half-hour pilot slate, including Glenn Close’s Sea Oak, Bridget Everett’s Love You More and Diarra Kilpatrick’s The Climb.

As noted by Deadline, which first reported the news of the trio’s demise, the quasi-canecllations come just weeks after the male execs who greenlit them, Amazon Studios boss Roy Price and his No. 2, head of comedy and drama development Joe Lewis, left their posts in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

J.J. Abrams to Receive Athena Film Fest’s 2018 Leading Man Award

The Athena Film Festival has named director, producer, and writer J.J. Abrams its Leading Man. Abrams will receive the fest’s 2018 Athena Leading Man Award in honor of his “extraordinary career and continued support and advocacy of women in the entertainment industry,” a press release has announced.

With the female protagonists of his shows “Felicity” and “Alias” and his casting of Daisy Ridley as the central character of the new “Star Wars” trilogy, Abrams has long been a champion of women in entertainment. He’s also been an ally for women behind the camera.

“I am deeply humbled to be recognized by the Athena Film Festival. Any good I’ve done has been achieved because I have worked alongside women, and I share my gratitude with all of them for being honored with this award,” Abrams stated.
