Dubai: Arab World Women Directors – Sofia Djama, ‘The Blessed’
Algerian helmer-writer Sofia Djama’s debut feature drama “The Blessed” arrives in Dubai after an auspicious world premiere in the Horizon’s competition of the Venice Film Festival. Not only did exciting young star Lyna Khoudri nab the section’s best actress kudo for the role of Fériel, but the film also collected a pair of important collateral prizes: the Brian Award for a film which “best champions human rights, democracy, pluralism and freedom of thought” and the Lina Mangiacapre Award for a film which “changes the image of women in the cinema.”

Oran-born Djama studied literature in Algiers, later penning a collection of short stories set in the Algerian capital. She adapted one of them for her first prizewinning short, “Limply One Saturday Morning.” Djama says, “I like short stories. I like the tempo, the rhythm, the moments of rupture. I find that this literary form makes it possible to highlight absurdity. As I am the

David Harbour Says ‘Hellboy’ Is a ‘Monster Movie That’s Dark and Scary’

David Harbour Says ‘Hellboy’ Is a ‘Monster Movie That’s Dark and Scary’
David Harbour is gearing up to play a different type of Hellboy.

The actor discussed, at the Variety Studio at the Dubai International Film Festival, the challenges that come with assuming the signature superhero.

“It’s the most physical role I’ve ever played,” Harbour said. “The stunts are incredible, and the action is really incredible, and I’m way too old to be doing that stuff.”

Another trial is undergoing the aesthetic transformation involved with Hellboy’s extensive, makeup-heavy look. “It’s two to two-and-a-half hours in a chair every morning being painted red with all these prosthetics,” he said.

Harbour, who said he read “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola’s graphic novels when he was in his 20s, likened superhero movies to the mythos of ancient Greece. While they had Agamemnon, Achilles, and Cressida, modern America has Captain America, Iron Man, and Superman.

“They are mythos, so I wanted to be involved in that conversation,” he said

Hellboy reboot given early 2019 release date

Simon Brew Dec 1, 2017

The new Hellboy film is confirmed for a January 2019 release.

It’s official: the reboot of Hellboy is coming in just over a year. Lionsgate has confirmed a Us release date of January 11th 2019 for the new movie, that sees David Harbour take over the title role, previously played on the big screen by Ron Perlman. The movie is already well into production, and we suspect if all goes to plan that Lionsgate will want a new franchise here.

The film is being directed by Neil Marshall, and the supporting cast includes Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane and Daniel Dae Kim. Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby and Chirstopher Golden have penned the screenplay for the movie.

We'll keep you posted as we hear more about it...
